If you have recently received notice of an upcoming Protection from Abuse (PFA) hearing, you should consult with an attorney as soon as possible. On the day of your scheduled PFA hearing, the Court may, following a hearing, enter a final PFA Order against you for as long as three years.
A PFA Order may prohibit you from having any contact with the opposing party, any children listed as protected parties under the Order, or both. The PFA Order may require you to compensate the opposing party for economic losses he or she claims resulted from the alleged abuse. The PFA Order may also impose requirements on you, which may include the payment of child support and restrictions on the quality time you spend with your children.
